that, in the event of war, first offenders

of the non-criminal types who are serving

sentences of six months and under should be

released gradually on the outbreak of

hostilities. I should be grateful if you

would let me know whether there is any

useful information which I could send to

Sir Geoffry Northcote in reply to the

inquiry in the last paragraph of his letter

and whether you have any particular comment.s

to make on the general intentions expressed

in the letter.
